OUR STORY
The 1st Lucinda's Walk took place on October 20, 2012 at my late mother's house in East Atlanta and consisted of mostly family and a few friends. In total, we were able to attract 42 people to the initial walk. We sold t-shirts commemorating the walk for $10 and donated the profits to the Susan G. Komen Foundation and the Winship Cancer Institute.

The idea of the walk was created by my wife Mary “Shina” Howard. We were presented with the invitation to participate in several breast cancers walks and my wife thought it would be a good idea to start our own walk in honor of my Mother, Lucinda H. Griggs.
The design for the t-shirts was also created by my wife. We chose a white shirt to keep our expense low. The original design had a pair of pumps on it, a tube of lipstick and (of course) the breast cancer symbol. The design was based on a concept my wife created, combining several elements that embodied my mother's diva persona. So, because my mother dressed well, elegantly, and presented herself well as a lady, the pumps represented the walk and the lipstick represented the woman and diva image. Out of the 42 t-shirts sold that year, most of the sales were generated by my cousin, Tammy Shanks, who marketed and recruited participants from across our network most of which were from my mother’s home town of Conyers, Ga.
12 years later, Lucinda's walk has been a great blessing to me, my family, and all of the people we are able to serve.
